A Typical Day
Free Choice Activities
We start each day setting up the classroom area assuring that age appropriate activities are set up for the children to explore.

Outdoor Activities
After the outdoor play area is set up, the door is opened and the children are free to choose activities inside or outside. The outside activities may include climbing, painting, water play, imaginary play, building with blocks, exploring the garden and many other diverse activities.  For a tour of outdoor  play area, click here.

Circle Time
Each day, the children gather for a structured circle time led by our teachers. Circle time may include music, song, dance, story telling, books, and other creative activities inspired by parents and teachers.

Snack Time
Each day one family brings a healthy snack to share with the children.  The children sit together at tables and share in the process of "dining" where valuable social skills are gained.

Goodbye Circle
At the end of day, the teacher gathers the children and parents for a goodbye circle to provide closure to the day.

Field Trips
We have a wide variety of field trips scheduled throughout the year, such as visiting farms, pumpkin patches, the monarch butterflies, and many more adventures.
Parent's Role
Parent involvement is one of the most amazing aspects of our preschool.  Parents actively work in the classroom, getting to know each child and the other families. Friendships are developed, knowledge is shared, and children feel safe and free in such a well supervised environment.

Parent Responsibilities
  • Work in your child's class one day each week, arriving early to assist the teacher in classroom setup and staying at the end of the class to clean up and meet with the teacher and other parents for weekly parent education seminar.
  • Fun, Inspirational Education Nights are included with your tuition.  Attend as many as you like with your partner or adult caregivers.
  • Attend small group Class Meetings two times a year.
  • Provide a nutritious snack for your child's class approximately once a month.
  • Take on a support job (become a Board Director, class photographer or help with  gardening, shopping, etc.)
  • Participate in all special events and community building activities. Families make a $100 fundraising commitment to the school per year.
  • Supervise a group of 5-8 children while other parents are having parent education seminar with their teacher (we call this Child watch). Responsibility rotates among members.
  • Attend 3 out of 4 yard workdays each school year, a set up day at the beginning of the year, two mid-year cleaning and a clean up day at the end of the year.

fundraising
Fundraising is a crucial aspect to Soquel PENS continued success. All of our expenses must be covered through fundraising and tuition. In order to keep our tuition at the current level, we must fundraise a substantial portion of our operating costs. Each member is required to contribute four (4) hours of time to fundraising activities and raise at least $100. There are many opportunities we have planned for this year. Here we have listed them:

Opportunities to donate two (2) hours of time:
  • Promote Pizza My Heart Night (September)
  • Helping with Soup Night (October)
  • Helping with Story Night (January)
  • Helping with Spring Event (April)
  • Helping to set up Education Nights
  • Preparing food for events

Opportunities to raise $100
  • Attending and inviting others to our fundraising events such as : Pizza My Heart Night, Fall Carnival, Soup and Story Night, Spring Event, Read-A-Thon
  • Making and soliciting cash donations to the school.  (We receive 100% of what you raise).
